Natural convection in a horizontal porous cylinder / Leiv Storesletten, Morten Tveitereid - Kristiansand : International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 991. - 30p.: 30 cm.

Natural convection in a porous horizontal circular cylinder is considered. The cylinder wall is non-uniformly heated to establish a linear temperature in the vertical direction, with the end sections perfectly insulated. When L > 0.86, a unique three-dimensional flow is determined at the onset of convection. For short cylinders (L < 0.86) the convection is two-dimensional. In this case there exist two different steady solutions at supercritical Rayleigh numbers, consisting of two and three rolls, respectively. It is proved that both flow structures and any composition of these structures are stable. However, introducing thermal forcing in the applied temperature the flow becomes uniquely determined
